As far as I can tell there are only three reasons to visit Belize. Either you are a keen scuba diver; or you want to get away from the hectic pace of modern life; or you are invited to a wedding. I don't scuba dive as the world above the water is far too interesting and I have not yet exhausted it. So as Meatloaf sang, two out of three ain't bad.
The groom was my friend Everett from Stanford Business School where we had bonded through our common passion for football (aka soccer), travel and dancing (Everett was responsible for me learning to samba). His dynamic bride Julie had just finished her four year term on Washington DC's Board of Education, so a large group of the guests were from the political world of candidates, policies, issues and elections.
The 5 day trip had all the ingredients I look for in a vacation - reconnecting with old friends, meeting new people that take you out of your world, time to reflect and read, an opportunity to celebrate meaningful milestones in our lives.
So maybe the Meatloaf quote is inappropriate as it implies something was missing. As usual perspective is a function of framing.
